How resilient is our financial system to climate risks? Can the financial sector actively support the transition to a sustainable economy—or does it hinder it? The Department of Finance of the University of St Andrews Business School is bringing together leading academics and experts to explore these critical questions at a one-day Symposium on Sustainable Finance.

Co-organized with the Centre for Responsible Banking and Finance and Scotland Beyond Net Zero (SBNZ), this event received funding from the 2025 call for project grants by the St Andrews Centre for Critical Sustainabilities.

Confirmed speakers include Ralph De Haas, Director of Research at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, along with researchers from King’s College London, University of St Gallen, Vienna University of Economics and Business and other leading institutions. The event aligns with StACCS’ Capital theme, examining how financial capital can be mobilized for sustainable transitions while ensuring financial system resilience to climate risks.

Outcomes from the symposium will be captured in workshop proceedings and will contribute to the SBNZ annual Finance theme report, helping to inform Scotland’s path to net zero and strengthening St Andrews’ position as a hub for sustainability-oriented finance research.

Wednesday 18th March 2026, 10:00 – 17:00

Boardroom, Gateway Building, University of St Andrews
