StACCS Welcomes New ‘Chronologically’ Theme Lead

StACCS is delighted to announce Dr Katy Roucoux, Senior Lecturer in the School of Geography and Sustainable Development, as the new lead for our ‘Chronologically’ theme.
This theme will bring together researchers who study long‑term environmental and societal change, asking how deep‑time perspectives can inform decisions that are conventionally shaped by short‑term political, economic, and cultural pressures.
Planned activities for 2026–27 include:
- Quaternary Research Association Field Meeting (Spring 2027). A four‑day exploration of the Late Quaternary history of the Corrour Estate, co‑led with Royal Holloway University of London (RHUL) and designed to build a new transdisciplinary network of scientists and land‑management practitioners.
- Chronologies reading/writing group. A reading group to meet twice a month for a semester (frequency and duration to be decided) with the aim of exploring the value of long-term perspectives on environmental change and anthropogenic impacts.
- Traditional ecological knowledge and palaeoecology. Seminar with visiting Senior Global Research Fellow Prof Simon Haberle. 14 May 2026, 10:00 to 12:00. Further details TBC.
- Decolonising research: Antipodean and palaeoecological perspectives. Roundtable discussion uniting researchers across the University with interests in Indigenous communities. Date and time TBC.
Under Dr Roucoux’s leadership, the ‘Chronologically’ theme will strengthen interdisciplinary dialogue by connecting past climates, environments and landscapes with future sustainability challenges. Watch this space to find out more!
